Rapid expansion

Within a short period of time Glitter has grown from a local Swedish company to an international fashion chain with 253 shops in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Poland.

Glitter’s history

During the 70’s, Glitter’s founder Sven-Axel Svensson ran a small tobacconist’s shop in Söderköping. One day a woman came in and asked if he sold necklaces, which gave him the idea to run a wholesale business for costume jewellery.
In 1992 Sven- Axel had established his wholesale business and opened his first Glitter store, which was the beginning of the chain of stores.

In 1999 Sven-Axel passed away and the company was bought by the investment company KF Invest.

In 2004 Glitter was bought by the Swedish group Bergendahl & Son AB. The company is a trading house owned by third and fourth generation members of the Bergendahl-Mylonopoulos family. Once again, Glitter has become a family owned company.

In 2007 the headquarters moved from Söderköping to Stockholm. The Purchasing, Marketing, Controller and IT divisions are now located in Stockholm. Warehouse and Administration remain in Söderköping

In 2010, Glitter celebrated their ownership of more than 250 stores in five countries.
